Young Carers

At Town Farm, we are committed to supporting all pupils, including those who may have caring responsibilities at home.

 

Who is a Young Carer?

A young carer is a child under 18 who helps care for a family member due to illness, disability, mental health problem or an addiction.

 

Possible Signs

- Regular tiredness or lateness

- Difficulty completing homework or concentrating in class

- Frequent absences or anxiety about going home

- Taking on responsibilities beyond their age

- Changes in behaviour or emotional wellbeing

 

Support Available

In school:

- A designated member of staff to talk to

- Flexible approaches to homework and deadlines

- Emotional wellbeing support

- Opportunities to take part in young carers’ groups or activities

- Help with attendance and punctuality where appropriate

 

External:

- Local young carers’ services offering group sessions, trips, and peer support

- Counselling and wellbeing services

- Online resources and helplines
