Every Child, Every Day, Every Moment

Online Safety

At Town Farm, we are committed to ensuring that all our pupils understand the importance of staying safe online. With the growing use of technology in education and everyday life, it’s vital that pupils, staff, and parents are aware of the potential risks and how to navigate the digital world responsibly.

Our Online Safety Policy sets out clear guidelines for safe internet use, helping pupils to recognise and avoid online dangers such as cyberbullying, inappropriate content, and privacy risks. We educate pupils on the importance of responsible digital behaviour through dedicated lessons, workshops, and resources.

We also provide advice to parents and caregivers on keeping children safe online at home. Together, we can equip our children with the knowledge and skills they need to enjoy the benefits of technology while staying safe and protected.

How do we teach Online Safety?

Our approach includes engaging lessons, assemblies, activities, and resources to help children develop the knowledge and skills needed to stay safe online. Here are some of the key areas we focus on:

  • Safe Internet Use: Teaching pupils how to browse the web safely, recognise secure websites, and avoid sharing personal information online.
  • Cyberbullying Awareness: Educating children on the impact of cyberbullying, how to report it, and ways to support peers who may be affected.
  • Social Media Safety: Helping pupils understand the potential risks of social media platforms and how to manage their privacy settings effectively.
  • Understanding Online Risks: Raising awareness of inappropriate content, online scams, and how to report suspicious activity.
  • Responsible Digital Citizenship: Encouraging positive online behaviour, including treating others with respect and understanding the long-term impact of their digital footprint.
  • Parental Involvement: Providing guidance and resources to help parents support safe online practices at home.

Through these learning experiences, we aim to empower pupils to make informed and responsible choices while using the internet.

How Can Parents Help with Online Safety?

Parents play a vital role in supporting their children’s online safety. At Town Farm, we encourage parents to be active partners in guiding children to make smart, responsible choices in the digital world. Here are some practical ways parents can help:

  • Maintain Open Communication: Regularly talk with your child about their online activities, the apps they use, and any concerns they may have.
  • Set Clear Boundaries: Establish rules for screen time, appropriate online behaviour, and the types of websites or apps your child is allowed to access.
  • Use Parental Controls: Set up parental controls on devices, apps, and search engines to filter content and monitor your child's online activity.
  • Be Aware of Social Media: Familiarise yourself with the social media platforms your child uses, and ensure they understand privacy settings and the potential risks of sharing personal information.
  • Model Good Behaviour: Set an example by demonstrating responsible internet use, such as avoiding excessive screen time and practicing good digital citizenship.
  • Stay Informed: Keep up-to-date with the latest trends, apps, and potential online risks, so you can guide your child more effectively.
  • Report and Support: Encourage your child to come to you with concerns, and be ready to help report any cyberbullying, inappropriate content, or suspicious online behaviour.

By working together, we can help ensure that children stay safe, positive, and responsible in the online world.
